About 3 weeks ago my new Japanese friend, Mikka, and I had a girls day. She wanted to show me around...
We met at Todoroki train station and took the train to an antique market in Ginza. The market is only twice a month, but well worth a visit! It was cold, so apparently, there weren't as many people as usual, but in a way, that was good for us! We browsed, admired, looked, asked for prices (Mikka did that part, phew!). We had a hot chocolate break after an hour just to warm up in a cafe next door. And then we carried on our shopping. Here's what I found and bought:
the Oedo Antique Market
a lovely plate with Japanese house and Mount Fuji
(nice for deco or for a few orange mandarins on the kitchen table) :-)
Antique "Kokeshi" dolls from Edo Period (1600's)
an old Japanese passport (also from Edo period) Cute, hey? :-)
Afterwards, Mikka and I found a nice little Thai restaurant and enjoyed some delicious food. It was really good. Inspirational, that I came home to find out more about cooking Thai.... :-)
Anyway, we then took the trains home - it took us nearly an hour - and we stopped over in Jiyugaoka (near our home) to pick up some bagels for home and we had a coffee and a dainty little chocolate cake (tiny little piece, terribly cruel.)
And that was our day! Came home feeling fresh and ready to play with dolls, puppies, and applauding ballerina tricks again. :-)
