Oktoberfest!!

I've just downloaded my pictures off my camera and here we go....off to the Oktoberfest!
Josephine's school (sounds like she really owns it, doesn't it!!), hosts a big event each year to celebrate the October festival. Usually celebrated in southern Germany (Munich), it's well known to be a bit of a booze-up and big beer party. But being held at a school, we went off with positive expectations not to be tripping over drunkies or so! :-) And, no, there were no dronkies around. Indeed, it proved to be a wonderful family day with big tents selling all the usual German foods from north, south, east, west. There were also many performances on the outdoor stage they set up, including a Japanese Oompah band (!!!). It was a lovely atmosphere: some fun runs, football, cakes, music, etc, etc. All in all, a worthwhile visit.

Just as we opened our front door to leave home, we literally stumbled upon a lovely (!) Bavarian dress that our German neighbours kindly left at the door for Josephine to put on. They had found it last minute and thought it would be nice for her to wear. It was perfect!!! Did a quick change on the spot and carried on to the school. Thanks Britta!! And sorry we didn't hear you knocking!

Anyway, here are some photos to give you a feel for the atmosphere. It was about 27degrees celcius with a light breeze...couldn't have been more ideal!

the stage with the little parade of Japanese children: beautiful children they are!!

they were good!

look how cute they are too!

some "bus parents" that I meet every day at our bus stop. They were manning one of the stalls!

our lovely neighbours and friends: Alexander and Victoria (same ages at J&E)

little Bavarian milkmaids (does look that that, don't you think!?!)

And back to the task at hand: collecting, squashing, playing with and cuddling some darling black ants. ;-)

Yip, that's a tiny weeny one between my out-of-proportion hand here!

And Pappa with Evie. Boy we had to watch that she didn't just walk away from us altogether. A little distraction can get her a-walking with no fear of losing her parents or life.

And we rounded our day off with some nice pizza! A little Italian food brought some "balance" to the lovely day! :-)
